The DVSA introduced an extended notice period for test cancellations from 8th April 2025, from 3 working days to 10 working days. Any test cancelled any later will result in the loss of test fee. All candidates with tests already booked should have received an email informing them of their new cancellation date.
Why have the DVSA made the change?
The changes have been made as part of a 7 point plan to try and reduce the waiting time for test. It is hoped that by increasing the notice period any tests that are cancelled in time can then be rebooked by another candidate that is ready for their test.
Will the changes to the driving test booking system work?
This, we will have to wait and see over a period of time. The concern that driving instructors have is that these test will be grabbed off of the booking system by bots and software of third party booking apps and websites, and sold to candidates desperate for a test, at inflated prices.

How to book a driving test
If you are taking driving lessons with ELITE then talk to your instructor if you have any concerns about your test booking, or need advice on the best way to go about trying to secure a test date in the first place. Ensure that you only use the DVSA official booking system to book a test. There are many scam operators exploiting the lack of driving tests.
